Friendswood ISD – Youth United Way Young Leaders Board

We are so excited to announce that Friendswood ISD is the first high school in Galveston County to jump on the Youth United Way bandwagon! This flagship program of United Way Galveston County Mainland will give young leaders an opportunity to serve on an advisory board that approves grants for youth-driven community service projects. The TCPD Police Week Golf Tournament is SOLD OUT!

If you still want to support the TCPD Police Week Golf Tournament, please consider buying a Hole Sign for $100. You will get your company name printed on a sign by one of the 18 holes, which will be visible to more than 288 golfers and 50 volunteers to see.

Congratulations, Jordan Ellis!
All of the fine folks that joined us on the Seeing is Believing Tours this morning were entered into a drawing to win an Grace Angel statue provided by Ellie Hanley and ADA Women’s Center. Jordan Ellis, from Texas First Bank, is the lucky winner.

Our United Way is FULL of Heroes
The Galveston County Daily News had their annual Citizen of the Year Reception on April 19 to honor Everyday Heroes, Community Champions and Scholarship Recipients. We are so proud to announce that our Volunteer of the Year, Glenn LaBorde was chosen as an Everyday Hero, along with Betty Pena, the Executive Director of M. I. Lewis Center. Mark Davis of the Galveston County Food Bank was also honored, along with allocation volunteer Renita Glaze and long-time UWGCM volunteer Emken Linton. We consider ourselves lucky to have such dedicated community leaders involved with United Way Galveston County Mainland.

Your United Way: Improving Financial Stability
Earn it. Keep it. $ave it.
This year, VITA volunteers at United Way Galveston County Mainland provided FREE Income Tax Preparation Assistance to low-income, elderly, and disabled people. Betty Willis and Leslie Jackson, UWGCM Staff, are IRS certified volunteers that are trained to prepare basic tax returns. They prepared 42 returns, which resulted in tax refunds totaling $38, 728. This money will stay in the hands of hard-working people so they can stay on the path to financial stability.
